So today (May 30, 2024) I put on the J 5.1.1 update and then decided I better make one duplicate template. Why? Because I want to modify my own template (a copy of cassiopeia) and make changes to prevent being overwritten by Joomla update. Okay. Nuff said there.
So after doing one pass of 'create child' template, my backend now has one "Child of Cassiopeia" in styles (expected) but now has two more items in Templates. Expected is one more. It gave me the one I asked for and it gave me a second one (having the name copy of cassiopeia in its style name.) So now I have ID 11, 15, 16 but ID 15 is the one I want to assign to all pages. Except it has the problems of not using a language. It shows me the field CONSTANTS instead of the word. I deleted ID 16 the copy I don't want. I do like the fact that I can put my PHP and CSS and other override files in the child. But I dont know if I should be manually modding the templateDetails.xml.
I do note that the child's templateDetails.xml is vastly different from the original templateDetails.xml in J 5.1.1
Am confused but at least this is all an experiment site that isn't not in production yet. Hopefully by end of summer.
