Let me make sure I understand what you are telling me.
I have backedup and restored the site quite a few times. In that process I have deleted all the files, but not the database. Question then, when Akeeba does the backup doesn't it also backup the database? And when the site is restored doesn't it also "restore" the database?
You say "create a new database and restore the site to pre-migration status." So are you saying not to use Akeeba backup and restore?
And, I have deleted all the old templates except the default one.
It would be helpful if you could be more specific about the steps you are suggesting.
