Extensions for Joomla! 5.x • Best way to set up a searchable book/paper/article catalogue in Joomla 5

Hello all,
I'm currently involved in updating and migrating a non-profit archaeological website to Joomla 5 (using a Gantry 5 framework and template). As we know that the former version website is used by the academic world, we have a list on one of the website's pages of relevant books, articles and academic papers related to the subject of our website (an ancient Egyptian city and its excavations). Although that list on the original site was a static and hardcoded page, we also had a downloaded bibliographical database built into an Excel spreadsheet that users could download and use.
With the migration to Joomla 5, we were thinking of also moving the bibliographical references to a searchable catalogue database (similar to web-based library catalogues, for example JSTOR or the like). This catalogue would have the following functionalities:
  • references may be searchable in a 'simple form' (for example by putting the full title of the work)
  • references could also searchable in an advanced form, so that the user could enter a combination of one or more words from one or more fields such as, say, the title, an author's name, a year of publication, a source journal, a category of publication (book, chapter, paper), etc.
The resulting query would produce a list of one or more titles from the database, along with where those titles could be found (in a book or journal, if they are papers or chapters). We may also include keywords if these are available.
The catalogue database WOULD NOT store any online versions of the particular articles or other items, and so would not be an online library as such nor allow the downloading of found references, nor would it not require any log-in, so would not need user authentication or tracking. It would also not be a lending library as such. It would simply be a searchable list of relevant papers, etc. as an open access bibliography.
We don't want to host our database within an external system, nor will we need access to any book-listing systems that can give us 'covers' of the books, ISBN data, user content such as review ratings, etc., or purchase availability which some online catalogues seem to offer with external websites, but we prefer instead to have a simple system of reference displaying from within our own site.
I understand that the bibliography would be housed in one or more relational MySQL tables that could be part of my Joomla database (although that isn't a necessity, and we could hold the data in a separate MySQL database housed in our hosting account), that I would need forms to enable the entry of the query and that I would need some sort of entry page and results pages.
Is anyone aware of such a system extension for Joomla, either freely available or available for low cost (we are a non-profit excavation website, after all), or if not, do they know of something similar that could perhaps be adapted to provide a bibliographical catalogue (for example a record, recipe, possessions or similar catalogue).

For reference, this is the current website that we are hoping to replace:
http://www.hierakonpolis-online.org
and this is the (currently parallel) Joomla 5 website we are currently building: http://www.pjrsandbox.org.uk/hkjm4
(we currently are using a free copy of JooDatabase but that does not have all the functionality that we would like.

Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions.
